Roger Royse Welcome to this event by the Cancer Patient Lab. I'd like to introduce our speaker today, Dr. Joe Lennerz, who is the CSO at BostonGene. He's going to talk to us today about integrated diagnostics, and then also lead a discussion on the topic. He has experience as a medical director at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, prior to becoming CSO at BostonGene.
At BostonGene he works in combining multimodal data to guide cancer treatment. Joe Lennerz 0:57 In the brief chat before we started the recording, we discussed integrating diverse test results. It is one of the key challenges or gaps. To address this today, I have tried to separate this into four things. ” “Precision oncology” is not only a buzzword, but it includes a plethora of solutions.
For example, just in the space of cell free or circulating tumor DNA, RNA, or biomarkers you see here, there are multiple different use cases just of that one technology. Providers as well as patients are faced with this diverse set of solutions when it comes down to practically looking at a certain challenge. On the one hand, the guidelines and approvals are constantly changing.
I show you here a part of a non-small-cell lung cancer NCCN guideline page. There are constantly new findings coming out in the literature. The daily practice sometimes looks like this, where individuals have to manage and navigate elements. How do we address this?
At BostonGene, we have many different solutions, and I want to show you that when looking at this, there are different, almost like cards in a Rolodex, that you can pull out when you want a certain lab technology to be applied to something to make it a little more concrete. I want to show you our “ecosystem of tests” that we have in a sort of interactive fashion. There are many different elements.
For example, in next gen sequencing, we perform whole exome sequencing at the DNA level, at the RNA level, and then, of course, whole genome sequencing, for example, or single cell RNA seq. And that forms one column of services. But as just outlined, there's liquid biopsy.
